Artist asks teenagers to kick Facebook for notebooks

Highbury artist, Hydar Dewachi is inviting teenagers to create their own “physical Facebook”, by filling old-fashioned journals with the things you might usually find on social media.

Participants will be asked to dive into their daydreams, familiar sights or thoughts to create their own visual storylines in concertina-style books.

They’ll also have the chance to create collages and draw on the current survey exhibition of Katy Moran’s intricate and dreamy pieces layered with acrylic, leather, board and paper.

hydar1hydar3Hydar is always found carrying a journal, his sketchbooks are witness to his everyday thoughts and scenarios – as you can see from the images above.

The week-long series is part of Youth Project, an initiative to encourage more teenagers into the gallery.

Reporter Ashna Hurynag went to chat to the man behind the workshops.

Invitation to a Voyage is a series of workshops open to all 14- to 19-year-olds held at the Parasol Unit Gallery during half term.
